I recently stumbled across the Status 24 96 Deluxe Desktop Interface by Sinn 7, a unique combination of high speed USB 2.0 audio interface and studio monitoring station/control. Some people may remember Sinn7 for their MIDI keyboard controllers, which they are no longer producing, but they do have an interesting selection of USB microphones, and an interesting range of studio monitors now.
A 6 input, 6 output 24-bit USB audio interface capable of high quality sampling up to 96kHz, the Status 24 96 is designed to make recording with multiple monitoring scenarios easy. If you like to be able to switch across two different pairs of monitoring speakers to highlight different parts of your mix, then you’ll love the way the Status can handle this for you.
It handles the ability to route to 2 main studio monitoring speaker sets and also 2 separate headphone monitor mixes. This could allow for a convenient setup of control room monitoring with two miked musicians each with a dedicated headphone mix for instance.
Here’s an example set up. But I can think of a number of set ups I could build with the Status 24 96.
There’s 2 switchable XLR/6.3mm jack inputs, stereo RCA input (RIAA with ground, so you can input a phono source), stereo RCA output, digital I/O, together with 2 switchable XLR/6.3mm jack outputs.
A dedicated Monitor-Mix control lets you crossfade between a zero-latency direct monitoring signal and software playback. Also, your A and B monitor sets can be blended together, or separated, by using the large central volume controls. Master A volume is surrounded by a conspicuous set of blue LEDs and the level indicators are eye catching blue and white LEDs.
The Status 24 96 would make a great companion to your live set up, perhaps blending a DAW like Ableton Live and/or a Serato DJing setup. But I can also think of a number of different ways and scenarios where I could make good use of the Status.
Where to buy
